How cool can it get!

Images of 3-D printing

For Christmas this year my son, Carl, decided that he wanted a 3D printer. So, with him paying half of the price and counting birthday present and Christmas present he became the proud owner of a 3-D printer.  After a few minor technical difficulties the printer is up and running.  I must say that it is totally amazing the things he has printed.  He started small with a 4" Christmas tree, paper clips, figurine of a Budda and each day his print-outs get better and better.  He and his brother, Robert, designed a pencil holder with Roberts name printed on the sides and other ornate designs in it.  He has printed out a little car that can run by twisting a rubber band.  For his brother, Craig, he printed out a replicate of an engine.  A couple days ago he printed a rose for me.  The rose took about six hours to print out.

Since it takes quite a while for each printout he has purchased himself a small, inexpensive video camera that can connect with his computer.  In the morning before going to school he starts the printer and the camera running and then goes to school.  Once at school he can check in on his printer with his chrome book while in class. (Of course, he never does that while the teacher is talking.)  His print out for today took about ten hours and is pictured below on the left side. When you hold that printout up to the light you see the photo that is on the right.  Totally amazing.  That is a photograph of my beautiful mother, Fern Hreinson Sullivan.

In conclusion:

Because when you stop and look around, this life is pretty amazing.  by Dr. Suess
