I have two new friends to add to my best friends list.
One of those friends is Aleta. She is my mentor and is helping me learn how to work on my DNA results. I sent her an e-mail this week moaning and groaning to her about how discouraged I was with the DNA project. Every week Ancestry.com sends a list of databases with anywhere from 0 to thousands of people in a database that I am related too. It is impossible to figure out who I am related to and how I am related to them.
It was only hours later that she responded to my e-mail and told me about a Google Chrome extension that I needed to download. This extension does a scan of all the databases and gives an Excel document of every surname in them, the administrator, the full name of all the individuals, and birth and death dates. The total number of individuals in this document was 213,160. (That's a lot of individuals to check out.) This is so much nicer than having to go through all those databases one at a time. So awesome!!!
The extension also gives another Excel document that shows a list of all the databases, how many people are in each one and how we are related. The total number of databases is currently 2,901. Next week I will be receiving additional ones. There is no way that I'd ever be able to go through them one by one.
It is a wonderful thing that now I can look on the scan results and find all the databases that contain the surnames Sheehan or Sullivan and concentrate on those families.
It is with much appreciation that I add the names of Aleta and the Google extension tech, Jeff, to my list of best friends. Thank you both so much. You are both an answer to prayers.
