We all have vices in our life. I have two major vices that my children think makes me pretty strange. My first vice is my strange love of cemeteries. We'll save that discussion for a different post. This post is about my second vice. I love fabric stores. I would rather spend my whole entire day shopping at fabric stores instead of going to Lagoon! That is exactly what happened last Saturday. I dropped Craig, Carl and Cassie off at Lagoon and went to all the fabric stores near Lagoon. They spent the day playing, riding, spinning, twirling, hurling, and standing in lines while I spent the day shopping. It was so AWESOME!!
The first thing I do when my children change homes is to check the fabric store listings in the yellow pages to see what is available in the area of their new home. I can give you a pretty good list for Cedar City, Ogden, Orem, Provo and Idaho Falls. A few years back, Robert moved from Price to Cedar City to attend SUU so I went on the fabric store search, simply because he wouldn't do it for me. I found the coolest fabric store in the middle of the ACE Hardware store in Cedar. Every time we went to Cedar City to visit Robert, to attend graduations, to move him home or for any other excuse I would visit the local Ace Hardware store. I loved that store!!
He graduated in May so we made our last trek south and I made my last visit to my old friend.
On my living room wall I have a space dedicated to seasonal wall hangings. There is a long dry spell of seasons from July holidays to Halloween. I'm sorry but I can't put my Halloween wall hanging up in August. I needed one for the in-between months. This was my quest for my last trip to the Ace Hardware Fabric Store. I found this way cute baby blanket panel to use. Around the edge of the panel it has a special little poem. It was the poem that finalized my purchase. It says:
Nighty Night Time for all God's Little Ones!
As I lay you down to sleep,
I pray my little one to guard and keep.
I pray that you won't grow up too fast,
For this precious time will have to last.
I pray for safety when away from me,
When riding your bike or climbing a tree,
I pray you'll know I loved you from the start
You stole my breath and jump started my heart
I can't wait to teach you your ABC's,
I look forward to talking about the birds and the bees
When I first saw your precious little face,
I prayed your life would be touched by grace,
As parent with child, each day I knew,
My mind would be filled with thoughts of you,
I pray you'll know how much you are loved,
You truly are God's gift from above.
(Henry Glass Fabric)
The sentiments in this poem describe how I feel about my children. I loved them from the very start, I pray for them daily and I look forward to seeing them and talking to them everyday. They truly are God's gift to me.
