The Winner Is #6

#6 - My sister lived with my Grandparents for the first ten years of her life and she says the winner is #6.  #6 is my grandfather, John Sigurmunder Hreinson.  Thank you to those who participated and shared your thoughts.

The photo on the right appeared in the Carbon County Newspaper on 1 Oct 1914.  John Sigurmunder Hreinson was 27 years old at that time.  My mother Fern Hreinson was born 18 days later on 19 Oct 1914.

Twenty years later the following newspaper article appeared.

MINER KILLED AS COAL FALLS
Cave-in Comes Without Warning In Utah Mine

SALT LAKE CITY, Jan 18 (AP) - Arnold Snow, 40, a miner in the Utah Fuel Company's No. 2 mine at Castle Gate, was killed early today in a coal cave-in.

Mine officials said the accident occurred when Snow and his partner Jack Hreinson, were "shooting" coal.  Hreinson said the cave-in came without warning.  Snow's skull was fractured and he died a few minutes after a rescue crew reached him.

He is survived by his widow, a son and two daughters.

Grandfather was called Jack Hreinson in the mines because his father Jon Hreinson also worked in the same mine.  I feel very humbled to know that my grandfather lived through the cave-in and the family of Arnold Snows lives changed forever.  Our family was truly blessed that day in the mine.
