Motor Home purchase
In May I began the process of looking for a motor home to purchase so we could go "camping". My husband is not a camper. He doesn't like tents, sleeping on the ground or cooking over an open fire but he finally agreed that we could purchase a motor home. I did my homework, checked prices, sizes, brands etc etc and we headed for the Wasatch Front to compare and evaluate. After a fruitless day we returned home to do some more homework. The following Tuesday while I was working at the Family History Library I happen to mention to my co-worker, Peggy, that we were looking for a motor home to purchase. It turns out that her father had a 1975 Apollo motor home in cherry condition sitting in his garage behind his home. They had tried to sell it a couple years ago and no one even came to look at it. It hadn't been run for 12 years and hadn't been started for the last five years but it had been running just fine when it had been parked. We went to check it out and in comparison to the others we had looked at it was wonderful. We wrote out the check and took home our "new" motor home. Considering the fact that it is almost 40 years old it is in very good condition.
Van began his diligent effort to make it road worthy. He checked and changed fluids, worked on the batteries, changed windshield wipers, checked for leaks in waterlines and pipes, worked on tires, had the air conditioner fixed and a whole list of additional repairs. He has been a very hard worker and excellent mechanic. Everywhere he drives he takes the "bus" so he can run out the old gas and replace it with new gas. (It has a 105 gallon gas capacity so at close to $4.00 a gallon for gas it is pretty scary to think about filling it up!)
Pleasant Valley Days in Scofield
Over the Fourth of July week-end we went on our first camping trip. We went all the way to Scofield, Utah for Pleasant Valley Days. I had to work at the booth for the Miner's Memorial Monument so we went the day before and camped out.
This is us in our Scofield camping place. Every campground was full to the max except this campsite so we parked the "bus" and spent the night. This camping Hamaker style.
I must say though that I was really disappointed in the fireworks on Saturday evening. I suppose that after watching the fireworks for so many years in Idaho Falls that it will be hard to ever be satisfied again with any other fireworks display.
Hamaker Family Reunion
Our next camping adventure was the following week-end to the Hamaker Family reunion in White Rocks campground near Vernal, Utah. It was an awesome Family reunion and it was so fun to be able to stay at the campground and not leave to go back to town to a motel for the night. I was happy and content. This is camping Hamaker style.
Fossil Valley RV Park
Following the reunion we headed for our next motor home camping experience. We drove to Vernal and parked at the Fossil Valley RV Park. The kids checked into one of the local motels for their camping experience. The next day we parked the "bus" at the local Wal-mart, piled into Cliff's truck and went to Flaming Gorge Dam. We went on a tour of the dam, feed the fish, visited Red Canyon visitors center and had a picnic. It was fun to be with the family and enjoy each others company. It was soooo much fun. This is camping Hamaker style.

It was beautiful, beautiful scenery and lots of fun to be with the family. There is more camping plans in the works so stayed tuned for updates.
