Thoughts about RootsTech

WOW!

Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 21st to March 23rd, was spent in Salt Lake City attending the RootsTech Family History Conference sponsored by FamilySearch.  In attendance to this conference was over 6700 people and they all wanted to be the same place I was.  I really liked the conference and learned a lot of good stuff but that is a few too many people for me.  I'm a small town person.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

One of the Friday morning keynote speakers was Jyl Patte.  She began by telling us to take a moment and think about our latest WOW moment, the latest WOW moment that took our breath away.  Then she gave us a four step recipe to use.
  1. Create the WOW moment.
  2. Capture the WOW moment.
  3. Archive the WOW moment.
  4. Share the WOW moment.
I especially like the story she told about her grandmother.  Her grandmother was famous for her Banana Chocolate Chip cookies.  Whenever anyone came to visit there was Banana Chocolate chip cookies to eat and share.  It became a family tradition to have these cookies.  The part that touched me was when her grandmother died the whole family came to the church for a family dinner.  The Relief Society had prepared Banana Chocolate Chip cookies for dessert.  It brought back such tender memories for everyone in attendance.  I thought how cool would that be if each Relief Society did that at the funeral dinner of every grandma. I'm sure every Grandma has some tasty dessert she is famous for.

Her challenge to us was: What can you do today to make it a WOW day!

Her whole presentation can be viewed here: RootsTech.org. Scroll down to Friday session and click on Keynote speaker.  I loved the concept and plan on using this idea along with a conference talk by President Henry B. Eyring in the 2007 October General Conference titled "O Remember, Remember" for my presentation at our Stake Auxiliary Training Meeting.  WOW!

My WOW moment for today was being able to see and visit with my husbands, cousin Lynn in Wal-mart!
