The theme for Primary for the 2012 year is "Choose the Right". We have learned a new song named, "As a Child of God" by Janice Kapp Perry. The words for the first verse goes like this: " I came to earth with power to choose, Good Choices bless me and my family too. As a child of God I receive special light, The Holy Ghost helps me to know what is right." We come to earth and have many choices and decisions to make. Some of those choices are much harder to make than others but the Holy Ghost can help us to make the right choice and do what is right.
In August, Van and I, will celebrate our thirtieth wedding anniversary. I have been thinking about the theme for Primary and about the decision I made thirty years ago to marry him. That was one of my hardest decisions to make in life. If someone had told me 32 years ago that I was going to marry a coal miner from Carbon County, who had two kids and an ex-wife, who lived in the middle of no where, six miles from town, on a dirt road, in a single wide, beat up old trailer I would have laughed at them and considered that impossible. I had been working for five years in the business world. The men I worked with came to work in dress slacks and nice dress shirts. They were office managers, computer programmers or accountants. They were all very active in church callings, lived in subdivisions and were good family men. I had it in my mind that my future husband was going to be just like them but that just wasn't to be. I am so grateful now that I made the choice to marry my husband. He is a good man, a wonderful father and I love him very much.
Choices are not always easy to make but we have the power of the Holy Ghost to help us make the right choice even if that choice is different than what we have planned for ourselves.
