Our Family & Castle Gate

Today was a good day.  My sister, Terry and I went to the Family History Library in Salt Lake to check out a book that was hopefully going to tell us all about her grandfather, Charles Fredrick Mack who was born 21 December 1881 in Meadville, Crawford, Pennsylvania.  We struck out though because the name Mack didn't even appear in the index of the book that was suppose to contain all the birth records for Meadville during a ten year period.

From the library, we went to Applebee's in Draper to meet up with a couple of our cousins, Lois Lynn and Vanda,  a daughter, Kristen, a grand-daughter, Crystal, a cousins son, Aaron, his wife, Cherry,  and their beautiful daughter, Brooklyn.  We had a really good visit.  We got to reminisce about the good old days and going to Uncle John's and Aunt Fern's in Orem for dinner.  Most of us had never been together all in the same place for many, many years so it was fun to sit back, listen to each other and ask a lot of questions.  I really enjoy getting together with my cousins and relatives and getting to know them better.

For Carbon County Historical Society meeting tonight we had the opportunity to listen to Pearl Stagg.  She is 97 years old and is an amazing woman.  She was born in Winter Quarters, Utah just a few days after my mother was born in Castle Gate, Utah.  My mother lived in Winter Quarters when she was eight years old and has a school picture taken of the class at Christmastime.  We haven't documented it but it is possible that both of them are in the photograph.  A few years later Pearl moved to Castle Gate and her and my mother became life long friends.  Even after my mother married and moved away they continued to correspond with each other.  Pearl shared with the group stories of her life in Castle Gate, her marriage and photographs from the past. It was a wonderful day.

Pearl lived in one of these homes alone the railroad tracks.
